Roof Replacement in Purcell

When repairs stop making sense, we tear your roof down to the deck and build it back right. You get a written price before work starts, a straight answer on insurance and a crew that cleans up every nail before leaving your home.

When a New Roof Is the Right Call

A roof replacement means removing every layer down to the wood decking, fixing what's bad underneath and installing a new roof system. It's a big job. We only recommend it when a repair would just buy you a few months.

Most of the time the decision comes after a hail or wind storm, or when an older roof starts leaking in more than one spot. If your roof can be fixed, we'll tell you and point you to our roof repair work instead. If it can't, we'll show you why with photos from up top.

A storm can leave a lot of roofers knocking on doors around Purcell. You don't have to sign anything that day. Get the roof looked at, get a written estimate and decide when you're ready.

What Your New Roof Includes

Old roof off, all of it

We strip the shingles, felt and flashing until bare wood shows. Stacking a new layer on the old one hides damage and puts extra weight on your framing.

Bad decking found and fixed

With the wood exposed, we go sheet by sheet looking for rot and soft spots. You see the bad boards before any get swapped, and the per-sheet price is already written into your estimate.

Underlayment and leak barrier

A synthetic underlayment covers the full deck. In valleys and around chimneys and pipe boots we add a self-sealing leak barrier, since those are the places water finds first.

New flashing and drip edge

The metal at walls, chimneys, vents and eaves gets replaced, not reused. Tired flashing tucked under fresh shingles is behind a lot of leaks on roofs that are only a year or two old.

Ventilation

We look at how air gets into and out of your attic and add ridge vent or other venting where it falls short. Trapped heat bakes shingles from below and makes your AC work harder.

Cleanup

Tarps go over flower beds, siding and the driveway. At the end of each day we roll a magnet across the yard and drive to pick up stray nails before a tire or a bare foot does.

Signs Your Roof Needs Replacing

Hail hits on every slope
Look for dark patches where granules are gone, or spots that feel soft when pressed. If those marks show up on every side of the roof, patching can't keep up.
Water stains in several rooms
A single drip can usually be fixed. When ceiling stains turn up in different rooms, the whole roof is wearing out, not one spot.
Shingles curling, cracking or blowing off
Edges that lift or shingles that split in the heat have run out of life. Every strong wind will tear a few more loose.
A dip in the roofline
A low spot or wavy look often means the wood underneath is wet and weak. It has to be opened and replaced, not hidden under new shingles.
Lots of grit in the gutters
A little granule shedding is normal on a brand-new roof. Heavy piles from an older roof mean the shingles are wearing down to the mat.

How a Replacement Goes

  1. 1

Roof and attic check, with pictures

First we get on the roof, and into the attic if there's a way in. Everything we find gets photographed. You keep the pictures, so you can look at the damage with your own eyes.

  2. 2

    Written estimate

Tear-off, materials, flashing, venting, decking by the sheet and the permit each get their own line. If you plan to file a claim, we'll go over the normal steps and what adjusters usually look at. Whether it's covered is up to the insurer.

  3. 3

    Permit and a start date

If the city calls for a permit, we handle getting it. Then we pick a day and let you know ahead of time, so you can move vehicles, pets and outdoor furniture.

  4. 4

    Tear-off and new roof

For most houses, the old roof comes off and the new one goes on over one or two days, depending on size and weather. We never open more of the roof than we can cover and seal before the end of the day.

  5. 5

    Final walk-through

Before we leave, we go over the flashing and vents, sweep the yard once more and walk the finished roof with you.

What Moves the Price

Two houses on the same street can get very different numbers. Pitch, buried layers and wood nobody can see yet all change the job. We write each piece of the work on its own line, so you can see where every part of the price comes from.

Size and pitch
More square footage means more material on the truck and more time on the roof. On a steep slope the crew works tied off with roof jacks, which slows the pace so nobody gets hurt.

Roof Replacement Questions

Will insurance pay for a new roof?
It depends on what your policy says and what caused the damage. Storm damage from hail or wind is often covered. Wear from age usually isn't. We'll photograph and write up what we find and explain how a claim normally goes, but the adjuster makes the coverage call.
How long will the job take?
Most houses take one or two days of work on the roof. A big or steep roof, or a lot of rotten decking, adds time. If rain is coming, we push the start back instead of tearing off your roof.
Do I have to stay home while you work?
No. We want to talk with you for a few minutes before we start and walk the finished job with you at the end. Move your cars off the driveway, and take down pictures and mirrors inside, because the pounding on the roof can shake them off the wall.
Should I pay more for impact-rated shingles?
If your area sees a lot of hail, they're worth considering. They stand up to hailstones better than standard shingles, and some insurance companies give a discount on premiums for them. Ask your agent before you choose so you know what it does to your policy.
Can you put new shingles over my old ones?
No, we don't do layovers. A second layer covers up soft decking and worn flashing, loads more weight onto your framing, and some manufacturers won't back their shingles when they're installed that way. A full tear-off costs a bit more, but it's the only way to see and fix what's underneath.
